Over the past two months or so it's been quite challenging getting Romaine and Iceberg lettuce. Heavy storms in CA and AZ have wiped out many lettuce crops and delayed planting of new crops. Those that survived the storms were too wet, infested with insects and/or had mildew setting on the leaves. As a result, demand exceeded the supply of Iceberg, Romaine, Red and Green Leaf and even Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Celery.

Prices of course soared while quality declined rapidly. Some restaurants opted to stop selling Caesar salads temporarily, while others, such as Pizza Palace, decided to weather the storm. The good news is that we are very close to returning to normal supply levels as other parts of the country are in-season now.

Our house salads are made from various leafy ingredients including iceberg, romaine, baby spinach, and spring mix. You may notice from time to time that the exact mix might differ. This is purely based on market conditions and availability of greens. Regardless, we always strive to provide the freshest salad available so you can enjoy some healthy greens as part of your daily diet. When our produce vendors struggle with providing quality greens, we have several options here in Milford including, Big Y, Stop and Shop, Shaw's, and ALDI's. There's a good chance you'll find us at one of those supermarkets.
